Other Sustainable Projects

Canarias Eco was created by Slow & Co. Unlike people sometimes think, Slow & Co is not a consultancy or a business mentoring service. Slow & Co is a connector company, helping Sustainable Changemakers to create and connect! This very marketplace is their showcase example, since it was created to connect local sustainable brands with responsible consumers and the other way around!

Besides Canarias Eco, they’re also connecting the dots for the following projects:

  • Concepto Yoga: The first Sustainable Well Being company on the Canary Islands, combining the importance of your own health with a slow and responsible way of living and organising activities. After all, sustainability starts with you!
  • Futural Tourism: a sustainable tourism, international development and innovation consultancy, working with organisations such as the World Bank, among others. They have been working as external advisors to Turismo de Tenerife in various projects. Slow & Co is a regular collaborator, and has helped them map out sustainable brands on the island of Tenerife, created online events for them, and most recently helped promote their ‘Pueblos Remotos’ project.
  • Tenerife Wellness Network: Tenerife has seen its wellness community evolve hugely over the past few years. The island is no longer considered just a sun and beach holiday destination, in the meantime, it’s home to some of the best practitioners in the world. The Tenerife Wellness Network has created a place for digital nomads and people looking for a healthy and conscious lifestyle to come together and since Slow & Co is all about networking and creating alliances, we’ve decided to support them on their mission to help unite the wellness community on the island of Tenerife with their visitors looking to find wellbeing activities.
  • Canary Green: an English speaking but very much Canarian non-profit, promoting sustainable tourism on the Canary Islands. Their mission is to showcase and promote all the responsible and sustainable initiatives on the Canary Islands to make sure all those travellers that visit our islands can do so in the most responsible way. Slow & Co connects the non profit with local companies.

Committed to the SDGs

Together with Slow & Co, we strive to support the Canary Islands to meet several of the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). For those of you who don’t know about those goals, they were originally conceived by the United Nations, “as a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. These 17 goals address the global challenges we face and are designed to leave no one behind.

On a side note, did you know they were adapted into the Good Life Goals? They focus on the personal actions everyone around the world can take to support the SDGs!

Not just with our marketplace, but also with the other projects Slow & Co is involved in, we aim to tackle the following:

SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth

8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth

Even though we ourselves are a small business, we do dream big. We hope to support local business in such a way we can all grow together! Imagine not just us at Canarias Eco, but several of the brands selling their services or products, being able to hire local people!

SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production

12 – Responsible Consumption and Production

This one kind of speaks for itself, doesn’t it? Canarias Eco was born out of the desire to make conscious consumption more accessible to everyone. We have chosen to focus on Canarian brands that have sustainable values and practices incorporated in their business models, from the raw materials they use till the packaging they send their products with.

SDG 14 Life Below Water

14 – Life Below Water

The Canary Islands are surrounded by oceans and ocean life and Slow & Co has collaborated in beach cleanups with Canary Green, worked together with the townhall of Santiago del Teide to promote artesanal fishing and how to take care of our oceans, promoted using personal care products that do not harm marine life on Canarias Eco, and so on. There’s a lot more to this specific goal, but we find it too important not mentioning it here, because as said, island life makes us well aware of the challenges we’re up against when it comes to our precious ocean!

17 – Partnership for the Goals

This is definitely one goal we relate to, since Slow & Co’s main mission is to achieve a more sustainable growth within businesses by helping them create and connect. Whether it’s the Slow Business Club soon to be launched, the Sustainable Networking event, or this very marketplace, there are plenty of examples we can give you.
